GRANTS TO TEACHERS

Fall, 2008 

 

1.   Brain Boosting Math Games and CentersMegan Trujillo – Adams Elementary - ($647.11 fully funded)

            This grant will be used to purchase math centers and games in the concepts of money, place value, measurement, time, fact mastery, fractions, data collection, and geometry.  These centers and games will enhance my math instruction because they provide children the hands-on practice they need to understand these concepts.

 

2.   Following the Write PathJan Feldt and Lisa Barthelme – Kennedy Elementary - ($580.61 fully funded)

            Writing allows the child to acquire the ability to communicate through the written word.  We plan to purchase additional children’s literature books that display the writing skills we will be teaching in mini-lessons and to provide writing materials in our writing centers to promote interest and creativity during our literacy center time.

 

3.   Exploring the UnseenSusan Reed and Cheryl Berry – Irving Middle School - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

            More microscopes provide learning experiences for greater number of students.  Microscopes unlock the world of the unseen.

 

4.   A Quest for AccuracyKate Baugher – Norman North High School - ($999.50 fully funded)

         Vernier Lab Quest technology will be used to collect accurate data in science labs.  Accurate data will allow students to interpret experiment results correctly and will prepare students in the use of laboratory technology found in most universities and science research centers.

 

5.   Finally, A Smarter Smart BoardCindy Castell – Whittier Middle School - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

            Smart Boards have recently been an amazing addition to many classrooms, but now new software makes me see an immediate use for the Smart Board in an English classroom.  New software developments bring literature and literary elements to life, make vocabulary active and interactive, and make poetry a “ballgame” all students will love to play and learn.

 

6.   The Teen-Centered Book Club: Turning Readers Into Leaders Karin Perry – Whittier Middle School - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

            Students need the opportunity to read and discuss a variety of literature.  This grant will provide book sets to use during a Lunch Book Club.

 

 

 

 

7.   A SMARTboard is SMART MoveYasmin Merchant – Adams Elementary - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

            This grant will be used to purchase a SMARTboard which is an interactive whiteboard that will be used to enhance students learning.  The additional funding will be provided by the PTA.

 

8.   Getting a Leg Up on GeometryErin McCain and Melissa Adair – Norman High School - ($549.43 fully funded)

            Funds from this grant will purchase two classroom sets of AngLegs™ in addition to a demonstration model of the manipulatives.  With the use of AngLegs™, students can discover geometric principles through hands-on investigation; a few examples of these principles are triangle and quadrilateral properties.

 

9.   Hurry! Act Now!Amy Brewer-Sterr – Jefferson Elementary - ($329.99 fully funded)

            This project supports the Oklahoma State PASS in the areas of social studies and language arts.  The grant funds will be used to purchase a set of Reader’s Theater scripts and CDs to be available for on-site library checkout.

 

10.    The “Write” StuffJamie Daniels – Cleveland Elementary - ($49.95 fully funded)

            I would like to purchase a letter of the week pocket chart that would provide daily practice of the every letter in the alphabet.

 

11.    Listen My Children and You Shall HearJamie Daniels and Julie Ferguson – Cleveland Elementary - ($227.33 fully funded)

               We would like to purchase a listening center that would allow multiple students to listen to taped books.  The center would provide an opportunity for students to increase their listening skills, vocabulary and help them develop a fondness for books and reading.

 

12.    Math to the RacesMelody Andrews – Alcott Middle School - ($349.08 fully funded)

               This proposal is for a high interest math program to use with those students who need additional intervention in order to master math skills at the 6th grade level.  It is a program that is designed to assist special education students; it has assignments for both lower and higher level workers and is recommended for ELL students.

                       

13.    Listen, I CAN Read!Jennifer Burnes – Alcott Middle School - ($569.46 fully funded)

               This proposal is for hands-on learning materials for students to use to supplement their reading instruction.  Students will be able to use most of the materials independently in order to reinforce concepts.

 

 

 

 

14.    Content Conundrum: Conquered With Books I Can Read Jennifer Burnes and Jene Cheek – Alcott Middle School - ($998.03 fully funded)

               This proposal is for nonfiction leveled emergent and early reading books that align to social studies and science curriculum.  Students need to have access to the curriculum at a level they can comprehend so they can become independent readers.

 

15.    Let There Be SoundTiffany Wylie – Truman Elementary - ($895.34 fully funded)

            Headphones for each of the laptops in our school will be used to enable students to realize the full interactive environment on the computer through the use of the sound capabilities without interfering with other students’ learning.

              

16.    Pipeline to CountingLisa Barthelme – Kennedy Elementary - ($582.00 fully funded)

               Math is a creative mental activity of constructing patterns and relationships, and number sense is crucial for students in this rapidly changing information age.  Students develop their own approaches based on mathematical reasoning rather than memorization, are more flexible mathematicians.

 

17.    Centered on WritingLaura Collins – Wilson Elementary - ($539.44 fully funded)

               This grant will provide resources to create a writing center.  There is a variety of writing activities and tools that will strengthen students writing skills.

 

18.    I Want Another StoryTrudy Conners – Norman North High School - ($49.99 fully funded)

               I would like to increase my special needs students’ vocabulary in science through high interest low level reading materials.  The students will be paired with a partner to read a story and answer questions for comprehension.

 

19.    Being Smart with a Smart BoardMary Pace – Whittier Middle School - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

               Using Smart Boards has become an interesting and exciting way to teach in the 21st century.  I hear students commenting about teachers who use these and how much they enjoy the interactive learning that is available with them.  This new Smart Board and the accompanying software will provide enhancements to the learning experience in my classroom, whether it is using the vocabulary games, poetry “ballgame” or making literature come alive.

 

20.    Colonial Time TravelSandra Dansby – Jackson Elementary - ($708.61 fully funded)

               The items we are requesting are novels and hands-on objects that will make Colonial America real to our students.

 

21.    Culture ConnectionLaura Woelflin – Kennedy Elementary - ($245.75 fully funded)

               Bilingual books that cover a wide range of topics will help Spanish speaking students understand the curriculum better.  It will also teach other students Spanish and will help create an atmosphere of mutual respect.

22.    Word WiseTeresa Lansford – Kennedy Elementary - ($336.00 fully funded)

               Children need the opportunity to build their vocabularies and internalize word meanings.  Equipping each of our primary classes with an interactive vocabulary enrichment set will help students increase their vocabulary and build their own definitions while having fun working with words.

 

23.    What A Sight!Jeanne Salmon – Kennedy Elementary - ($488.02 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will be used to purchase a sight-word learning center.  Included in this request are sight-word puzzles, magnets, and readers, along with a sight- word sentence builder kit, and an interactive sight-word CD ROM.

 

24.    Nonfiction Classroom LibraryTheresa French – Adams Elementary - ($529.00 fully funded)

               This nonfiction library has eighty different books with high-interest topics, full-color photos and accessible text for every reading level.  The books are organized into easy-access book bins in sets of five so the children can easily find the books they need.

 

25.    Moving and Grooving While Singing and LearningLianne Attar – Adams Elementary - ($403.39 fully funded)

               Moving and Grooving While Singing and Learning is a proposal for a total of 32 Jack Hartmann CDs (a set of 8 CDs for each of the four kindergarten teachers).  These musical CDs respect and celebrate the diversity of the world using hip-hop, reggae, and country rhythm and beats to teach social skills, language arts, math, science, social studies, and foreign language.

 

26.    Everyone’s Board: Creating a “Smart” ClassroomSara Carpenter – Wilson Elementary - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

               This grant will provide $1,000 of the cost of a Smart Board.  The PTA will cover the additional cost of this amazing technology tool that will create a computer based learning environment in my classroom.

 

27.    Fun With Learning PacksAngie Hoyt – J.D. McCarty - ($553.30 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will be used to purchase Learning Packs.  These packets will be used to teach basic skills to individual students who have multiple disabilities.

 

28.    Escape the Berlin WallJohn Daniel Nolan – Norman North High School - ($285.00 fully funded)

               Over the years my International Problems classes have had the thrill of escaping the dreaded Stassi Secret Police of East Germany.  This project puts groups of teenagers against authority, always a winner, and makes the Cold War world of the Berlin Wall alive.  The Escape from Berlin project was published in Southern Social Studies Journal and has been a real hit over the years but my collection is ragged and limited.  This grant would help bring alive the event, by providing real uniforms that the students and teacher wear and make the wall come alive.  It will also provide a hands-on opportunity in both my AP Government and AP European History classes to have students get to touch a piece of dreaded totalitarian history.

 

29.    Quia to SuccessStacey Fike – Irving Middle School - ($147.00 fully funded)

               This grant will fund the purchase of a three year subscription to Quia which will be shared by faculty members.  Quia provides teachers with the ability to create interactive online activities to reinforce and support information being taught in class and gives students the opportunity to use the activities from any internet accessible computer.

 

30.    Calling All Cassette Players!Jenny Crane – Roosevelt Elementary - ($342.04 fully funded)

               This proposal is for six student cassette players that will be used in the classroom to assist with reading and language arts times.  The cassette players will be utilized by first grade students to listen to books on tape in order to establish fluency, word recognition, and oral reading skills.

 

31.    Breaking the CodeBeth Gilberg – Roosevelt Elementary - ($374.28 fully funded)

               This grant is for sets three and four of the Academic Success for All Learners program, which is a series of decodable books.  These books will be read by struggling readers in grades one and two.

 

32.    Picturing Our Words: A Vision of Great WritingTracy Miller – Roosevelt Elementary - ($285.96 fully funded)

               Imagine yourself as a talented, inspired and creative children’s literature author.  Now imagine how excited students will be when they can envision themselves as authors and use picture books as “mentors” in their writing process!  Literature which clearly defines and demonstrates the six traits of writing will be purchased and used as high-quality examples of skills-based writing.

 

33.    Estimation and Measurement PowerMegan Trujillo – Adams Elementary - ($895.85 fully funded)

               This grant will provide students the opportunity to develop estimation and measurement skills through hands-on practice with rounding off practice boards, two measurement centers, and a precision school balance with both metric and customary weights.  These materials will be used for independent and cooperative practice in the classroom.

 

34.    Listen! I’m Reading!April Hughes – Roosevelt Elementary - ($490.00 fully funded)

               This grant will be used to supply our listening centers with sets of popular children’s literature and their corresponding CDs for all Kindergartner’s to access.  These materials will aid in building reading fluency, confidence, and a love for reading!

 

35.    Reading Adventures with PlayawaysEllen Lack – Wilson Elementary - ($777.24 fully funded)

               Our proposal would allow us to purchase 18 playaway self-playing digital audio books to be used by our students, teachers, and parents to promote literacy.  Playaways will be housed in our Library-Media Center and will be available for check out to students, teachers, and parents.

 

36.    Building Phonemic Awareness Skills through Interactive LearningCarol Goodgame – Wilson Elementary - ($996.00 fully funded)

               Students will be engaged in interactive and fun activities designed to enhance the practice and mastery of phonemic awareness skills.  The funds will be used to purchase books, manipulatives, games, and digital media used to enhance student learning and mastery by providing for differentiated learning styles and ability levels.

 

37.    It’s a Small World After AllTeresa McIntyre – Norman North High School - ($712.73 fully funded)

               The objective is to provide an observable aquatic ecosystem on a small enough scale that is manageable as an instructional lab in the classroom.  The lab includes minute crustaceans, aquatic plants, water containers, lights, and food supplies for the life forms involved.

 

38.    Out of the Book, Into the Graph!Todd Peterman – Norman North High School - ($160.39 fully funded)

               This grant will fund a workbook bundle of 10 topics to supplement lessons and aid in student understanding.

 

39.    I See Your Point!Todd Peterman – Norman North High School - ($292.01 fully funded)

               The grant will fund the purchase of a converter and cable to project the screen of the teacher’s graphing calculator for all to view.

 

40.    Get Your Head in the Game: Brain GamesMaggie Muir – Eisenhower Elementary - ($425.50 fully funded)

               This grant will help to purchase a variety of developmentally appropriate literacy and mathematically based games.  These learning games will allow for appropriate pacing while students apply their knowledge of kindergarten literacy and math skills.

 

41.    A Picture Worth 1,000 WordsCarrie Lowe – Irving Middle School - ($585.00 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will purchase a document camera.  The camera will be used in conjunction with a projector to highlight student work, work examples with students, demonstrate the use of manipulatives, and be used in other day-to-day classroom activities.

 

42.    Holy Reading, Batman! Graphic Novels in the LibraryJayme Seat – Jackson Elementary - ($532.09 fully funded)

               The purpose of this grant is to expand our graphic novel collection in order to entice our reluctant readers to read more books and therefore have more success in reading.  With this grant we will purchase 34 hardback graphic novels for our library media center collection.

 

 

 

 

43.    DIRT: Documents in Real TimeLajuana Pierce – Whittier Middle School - ($789.00 fully funded)

               A “Visual Presentation Camera” is a great method for dramatically increasing student’s cognitive resources while expanding their working memory.  Today’s students are learning through visual imagery in many different ways this is another effective way to communicate both abstract and concrete ideas to students in a media format they use in their everyday world.

 

44.    LCD means “Less Classroom Disruptions”!Carol Harris – Whittier Middle School - ($710.00 fully funded)

               Technology in the classroom helps to keep students focused and engaged in the lessons.  LCD projectors, along with a computer, can engage students through the use of videos, illustrations, graphs, and other instructional and attractive documents.

 

45.    Teach Me, ELMOYasmin Merchant – Adams Elementary - ($692.10 fully funded)

               Funds from this grant will purchase an ELMO document camera.  The ELMO will be utilized in all subjects and will be available for the whole school to use.

 

46.    Context + Culture + Comprehension + ELL CompetenceJudith Reynolds – Irving Middle School - ($94.75 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will be used to purchase two sets of National Geographic books, China and Japan, for small groups of English Language Learner students.  The books will provide background knowledge for reading literature, provide opportunities to reinforce social studies concepts in the ELL class, and provide more information about world cultures that the students encounter in Norman Public Schools.

 

47.    Lights! Action! Project It!!Renee Hensley – Wilson Elementary - ($828.60 fully funded)

               The funds provided by this grant will allow me to purchase an LCD projector.  This projector will greatly enhance my ability to utilize computer based resources in the classroom, making teaching more engaging and increasing student learning.

 

48.    Clear Vision for a Bright FutureBrandi Gomez – Truman Elementary - ($647.00 fully funded)

               Every student can become more authentically engaged in all curriculum areas with the real time video feed available using a document camera in the classroom.  This tool will allow all students in a classroom to view and interact with materials such as dictionaries, math manipulatives, various texts and science activities previously visible most easily by students closest to the teacher.

 

49.    Word Up!Amy Brewer-Sterr – Jefferson Elementary - ($815.50 fully funded)

               This project supports the Oklahoma State PASS in the area of language arts.  The grant funds will be used to purchase two 30- sets of “Flocabulary’s Word Up” multimedia vocabulary program to be available for on-site library checkout.

 

 

 

50.    The LCD Projector: Projecting Academic SuccessMegan Trujillo – Adams Elementary - ($951.00 fully funded)

               This grant will be used to purchase one LCD projector and audio-visual cart.  This technology will enrich instruction because it enhances visual learning and will increase student achievement across the curriculum.

 

51.    Say What You Wish To SayJaney Winfrey – Kennedy Elementary - ($137.70 fully funded)

               Challenged by new interactive game board activities, my students could experience the thrill of improved speech and language skills.  These game board activities could help students with their articulation skills; provide practice in asking and answering questions, increase receptive and expressive vocabulary learning, improve language production skills and gain semantic knowledge (learning: synonyms, antonyms and words with more than one meaning).

 

52.    Just Playing = Just LearningWendi Barry – Madison Elementary - ($616.92 fully funded)

               This grant will be used to purchase math games and manipulatives to help kindergarten student solve abstract math concepts.

 

53.    Star Blast the UniverseEileen Grzybowski – Norman North High School - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

               The funds requested will be used to purchase 4 Orion 6” Star Blast table top astro reflector telescopes.  These are very sturdy and easy to use.

 

54.    Freedom to FlyRachelle Roberts – Norman North High School - ($416.22 fully funded)

               I am requesting funds for an Airliner wireless tablet to use with the LCD projector in my classroom.  I can use the tablet while I walk around the room, show work on the board and it can accompany any PowerPoint presentation.  The students could also work a problem from their seats, which will show on the board for everyone’s benefit.

 

55.    Absent-Minded LabsKate Baugher – Norman North High School - ($327.95 fully funded)

               A digital camera will be purchased for the media center to be used by teachers in their classrooms.  Science teachers will use the camera to record all labs performed in their classrooms for absent students to view through Moviemaker on their computers or iPods in order to make up the assignments they miss.

 

56.    Digital Aids: Maximizing Individual AchievementYvonne Hogue and Elizabeth Windsor-Post – Norman North High School - ($890.40 fully funded)

               There is a need for the investment in personal headsets for the purpose of individual speaking practice, self-assessment, and authentic conversation recordings for foreign language classes.  Student learning will be enhanced by utilizing technology in a way that minimizes performance fears, increases oral participation and allows for more accurate evaluation.

 

 

57.    Can You Calculate It?Stephanie Williams – Irving Middle School - ($996.00 fully funded)

               This proposal is for purchasing scientific calculators.  The students will be able to use the scientific calculator to assist them in simplifying and solving mathematical problems.

 

58.    Art Set to Song!Alyson Hobson – Roosevelt Elementary - ($67.95 fully funded)

               This grant will provide CDs created by art educator Greg Percy to be used in the classroom during non formal and formal art instruction.

 

59.    The PresenterCarol Harris – Whittier Middle School - ($810.00 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will be used to purchase a document camera.  The document camera is a piece of technology that can be used to turn a classroom into a very student centered learning environment.  The document camera allows teachers and students to present textbooks, photos, graphs, charts, tests, handwritten notes and student work on a projector screen without the use of transparencies.  Three dimensional manipulatives can be projected not only showing color, but dimensionality too.

 

60.    Attention, Attention, May I Please Have Your AttentionTerri Simonds – Whittier Middle School - ($719.80 fully funded)

               Attention, Attention, May I Please Have Your Attention is a project that will provide the site with two portable public announcement systems and will allow the students the opportunity to hear when guest speakers or group assemblies are required.  Students who hear what he speaker is paying will be much more involved in the presentation.

 

61.    Rapid Reading Gains for ELL and Slow LearnersJudy Steiner – Adams Elementary - ($453.06 fully funded)

               Providing powerful strategies for high, rapid reading gains is necessary for a teacher to implement individual/small group instruction.  Marie Carbo’s Learning Styles Program provides books and CDs (funding purchase) that will perfectly pace, build fluency, comprehension and stretch good readers, slow learners, ELL students to success.

 

62.    1983 Called . . .Brad Talley – Jackson Elementary - ($516.06 fully funded)

               This grant proposal is for a classroom set of dictionaries from this century.

 

63.    One, two, three, come count with meJamie Daniels and Julie Ferguson – Cleveland Elementary - ($124.35 fully funded)

               We would like to purchase several counting kits.  The kit includes 75 animal counters, matching See-thru Stamps, counting tubs with labels, laminated counting cards and I Can Read Numbers Mini book Masters, plus teaching notes.

 

64.    “Can You See Me Now?”Rhonda Slatten – Alcott Middle School - ($718.99 fully funded)

               The ELMO Document Camera takes “show ‘n tell” to a new level. . . . into the 21st century, that is.  When using the document camera, student work, primary documents, maps, newspapers, books and much more can be projected clearly on the screen through the LCD projector.

65.    Manipulate Our Minds: Learning Math Through Hand-On ExplorationJennifer Burnes – Alcott Middle School - ($654.73 fully funded)

               This proposal is for the purchase of math manipulatives and learning aides.  Students learn best when given opportunity for hands-on learning.

 

66.    Clear Vision for a Bright FutureEmily Drewry – Truman Elementary - ($647.00 fully funded)

               This grant would purchase a personal classroom document camera.  This will enable students to look at our third grade curriculum in a completely new way.

 

67.    Buckling Up to Buckle DownTeryle Dionisio, Celeste Donaldson, Helen Powers, and Caryn Short – Roosevelt Elementary - ($889.10 fully funded)

               Funds provided by the grant will purchase 90 student sets, which include a workbook, a pre-test to establish a baseline of students’ knowledge and a post-test to measure mastery of the material.  This allows exposure to OCCT-formatted practice, reinforces students’ familiarity with the test format reduces test anxiety and effectively boosts performance.

 

68.    Lights! Camera! Projection!Sharon Ibach – Cleveland Elementary - ($553.00 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will purchase a document/presentation camera.  The camera will enable the instructor or presenter to communicate more effectively because a large group will be able to see what is being read, shared, demonstrated, modeled, or discussed.

 

69.    Math is All AroundSharon Wayne – Truman Elementary - ($481.51 fully funded)

               This grant is to increase the Pre-K “hands-on” math manipulatives and math books for the students to explore and discover counting, measuring, sorting, patterning, graphing and compare objects.  These manipulatives will give countless hours of exploration and set a great foundation for learning. 

 

70.    Do You See What I See?Todd Peterman – Norman North High School - ($553.73 fully funded)

               This grant request will fund the purchase of a LCD Projector.  The technology will allow the students to view teacher created videos, PowerPoint presentations, and interactive activities from a graphing calculator.

 

71.    High Tech and High TouchStacey Fike – Irving Middle School - ($450.00 fully funded)

               This grant will fund the purchase of materials needed for students to create a claymation video.  This project provides a unique combination of high touch and high tech experiences where students will storyboard, write dialog, create characters and sets, film, edit and produce a short video as their final project.

 

 

 

 

 

72.    “Now I See It!”Stephanie Fowler – Irving Middle School - ($579.42 fully funded)

               The funding of this grant will provide a portable document camera to be used in the 6th to 8th grade math resource classrooms.  The camera will be used to demonstrate the use of manipulatives (such a protractors, color tiles, etc.) while working actual problems with the students.

 

73.    Attaining Independence and Success in Everyday LivingCarrie Lowe – Irving Middle School - ($199.85 fully funded)

               This grant will purchase a life/job skills program.  With this curriculum in place, students will be able to plan and develop skills needed to transition from school to work.

 

74.    Do You See What I See?Stephanie Williams – Irving Middle School - ($575.00 fully funded)

               The funds from this grant will purchase a document camera.  The camera will be used in conjunction with a projector to highlight students work, work examples with students, demonstrate the use of manipulatives (such as color tiles, geometric shapes, etc.) and be used in other day-to-day classroom activities.

 

75.    Reading and Research on the Move!Buffy Edwards – Leland Wolf - ($1,000.00 fully funded)

               Reading and Research on the Move! is a project that will provide the funding to purchase portable carts and basic reference materials which can be checked out by teachers in remote NPS special facilities and at Dimensions High School.  Materials will include almanacs, dictionaries, thesauruses, atlases, WorldBook Student Discovery Encyclopedia, and Worldbook Encyclopedia of People and Places.

 

76.    Do Those Count As Reading?Karin Perry – Whittier Middle School - ($979.27 fully funded)

              Graphic Novels are an essential component to any successful school library media program.  By providing a variety of graphic novels for students to choose from, we are increasing students’ visual literacy and attracting reluctant readers, while at the same time, supporting the school’s curriculum and taking into consideration Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences.

 

77.    E-xciting Books!Audra Plummer – McKinley Elementary - ($201.59 fully funded)

              This grant will fund the purchase of e-books.  E-books are electronic books that can be read on a Smartboard with an entire class.

 

78.    Purchase of Document Camera ProjectorMary Helen Maggi – Longfellow Middle School - ($419.00 fully funded)

               The document camera projector allows any printed matter to be projected onto a pull-down screen, thereby allowing the teacher to use a variety of texts – even when the students do not have access to them.  It also eliminates the need for transparencies as the teacher can simply write notes and exercises on paper.

 

 

79.    Just Blink!Carell Falsarella – Washington Elementary - ($146.50 fully funded)

               All students, even poor readers or ELL identified, will experience success using visual-spatial activities found in “Blink”, a game of attributes and fast thinking!  Self-esteem increases as they compete to win.

 

80.    Feeling Hot! Hot! Hot!Heather Talley – Jackson Elementary - ($174.23 fully funded)

               This grant proposal is for one Hot Dots Quiz Cards set.  They are a wonderful way for students to learn math skills.

 

81.    Picture This!Heather Brumley – Norman High School - ($699.00 fully funded)

               The yearbook staff needs a new camera to help insure that we can produce an accurate historical documentation of one year at the school.  We are currently sharing our one camera between all the events and games that go on every night and as a result, we miss some plays and moments that students will want to remember for year to come.

 

82.    The Phonics Q Reading SystemSharon Williams – Monroe Elementary - ($544.50 fully funded)

               The Phonics Q Reading System is a kit that can be introduced in any order, used with any reading materials, and it works with small or large groups of struggling readers in elementary grades.  Students complete different sections of the program based on their needs and levels of competency using letters of the alphabet and letter combinations.

 

83.    Reliving our Country’s PastJamie Johnson – McKinley Elementary - ($600.00 fully funded)

               Twenty-first century technology brings history alive in the classroom.  Each Electronic Field Trip includes a vibrant historical account presented via live broadcast, an interactive session with Colonial Williamsburg experts along with a variety of online activities.

 

84.    Marker MagicShannon Pawley and Haley Honey – Norman High School - ($801.56 fully funded)

               This grant will purchase four, 48” x 96” dry erase boards for the classroom as well as dry erase markers and erasers.

 

85.    I Can’t See the Numbers!David Askey – Norman High School - ($600.00 fully funded)

               I have been making the online videos for the last three years for video podcasting, and exam reviews.  According to the students, the videos have made a tremendous difference in their deeper understanding.  This grant will purchase a mid range Hi Definition Camcorder that I will use in my online videos.  I am currently using my own seven year video mini DV camera for filming the videos, but it is starting to fail and the numbers, units and sometimes even the words are not readable when the video is transferred to the internet.

 

 

 

86.    “All The Better To See You With”Joye Oakley – Norman High School - ($508.00 fully funded)

               The paparazzi of the school is the newspaper, broadcast station and yearbook.  Each program depends on photographic equipment.  The newspaper has two nice SLR cameras, but limited equipment to make professional photographs suitable for publication and contest.  The newspaper needs lenses: two (2) telephoto zoom lenses for the SLR cameras not in use.

 

87.    Hear Ye! Hear Ye!Audra Gramling – Monroe Elementary - ($595.20 fully funded)

               Students need to have someone read to them.  This grant will purchase 15 audio devices loaded with a quality intermediate novel that students can checkout and enjoy.
